How to Boil Dumplings (Step-by-Step Instructions)

Step 1: Add water to a boiling utensil

Amount of water is 3.5 liters.

The water must be in abundance for you to boil a large number of dumplings in it. However, depending on the number of dumplings you want to boil, you will need to change the volume of water you use accordingly.

Step 2: Add salt and bring the mixture to a boil

Salt to be added is 1 tablespoon.

Salt is essential for seasoning anything and adding flavor to it. Since you’re just boiling dumplings, you might find them a little stale to eat since they haven’t been seasoned or spiced up. Salt adds a touch of flavor after its addition.

Moreover, salt also raises the boiling point of water and gives the dumplings more time to boil.

Step 3: Add 1 kilogram of dumplings and boil till they reach the top of the water

The amount of water you have used is appropriate for boiling around a kilogram of dumplings. If you wish to boil more dumplings, make sure that you increase the amount of water appropriately.

How Long To Boil Dumplings

The time you need to boil the dumplings varies. There are three stages of boiling in this specific recipe, and they go as follows:

  1. Bring water and salt solution to boil.

This boiling is done after you have added the salt to the water. Simply bring the water to a boil and turn off the heat when it has reached that point. There is no particular duration for this specific stage of boiling.

  1. Boil till the dumplings rise to the surface

The next time you boil, the dumplings should be inside the water. Once again, this specific stage has no duration, and you must boil the dumplings until they have risen to the top of the water. Simply wait for them to reach the surface.

  1. Boil for two to three minutes more

Once the dumplings have reached the surface of the water, you need to boil them some more. 2-3 minutes of boiling should be more than enough here, and you should turn off the heat after that. Boiling for longer could damage the dumplings.

How to Make Jamaican Boiled Dumplings

Jamaican dumplings are a treat to enjoy and also make a fine snack. To make these dumplings, you need to follow this process:

  • Sift flour with salt and cornmeal. Mix them all up gently with a tender hold on them to clump them together and not break them. Routinely add 3 tablespoons of cold water to the mixture to finely set the dough
  • Next, knead the dough on a surface that’s covered with flour. Make sure that the flour finely, and thinly covers, the entire surface and is not used in excess
  • Make pieces out of the dough. They are usually in two forms, small 2 inch long biscuits, and spinners formed by kneading the dough to make a pen of sorts
  • Boil water in a pot
  • Place the pieces of dough in the pot for around 6-8 minutes

The result should be finely made, fluffy Jamaican boiled dumplings. They can be eaten with almost any meal and make a great side to lunch and dinner.

No, the salt LOWERS the boiling point. Please do some research before writing things up
