How to Boil Ginger Root (Step-by-Step)

Follow these steps if you wish to boil ginger root to make tea:

Step 1 – Take a Piece of Ginger

You need a piece of ginger for your tea. It is the main ingredient after all. Find the freshest ginger root you can obtain from the market. A 50-gram piece is enough for one cup of tea. You can increase the amount based on how many cups you want to make.

Step 2 – Divide it into Pieces

Disassemble your ginger root into different pieces. A typical ginger root comprises several lobes that can easily be broken away from the main part. Break the ginger root into as many pieces as you can, the shorter, the better.

Step 3 – Peel the ginger

Next, you must peel the ginger using a knife. Using any other device may end up taking some of the ginger with it and would damage it. Peel the ginger as smoothly as possible, taking only the peel with you as you knife it. Make sure that none of the peel remains on the ginger root. Even the slightest amount can affect the boiling and not bring you the taste you seek.

Step 4 – Cut into thin Slices

Following the peeling, now cut your peeled ginger into thin slices. Keep the slices as thin as possible. The thinner the slices, the greater surface area to volume ratio they have, leading to better boiling and faster boiling.

Step 5 – Place in a utensil and add Boiled Water

After you have cut up the ginger root into several pieces, simply slide the pieces into a cooking utensil. Something like a pressure cooker works. After the cut ginger is inside, add 1 liter of boiled water to it. The water you add cannot be cold and needs to be put into the utensil with the ginger just as it starts boiling. Using boiled water is essential in this process.

Step 6 – Add Lemon Juice

Once you have added the water and left it to rest with the pieces of ginger root, the time comes to add extra flavor. This flavor comes in the form of lemon juice. Simply mix in lemon juice to the water and ginger, preferably the juice half a lemon contains.

Step 7 – Leave for 30 Minutes

Leave the mixture to sit for at least 30 minutes. The reason you must do this is to allow the water to mix with the added lemon juice and provide it to every ginger piece that has been placed inside the cooking utensil. The time limit is appropriate for everything to assimilate properly.

Step 8 – Cut the other half of lemon into Slices

Following leaving the ginger root, you must add more lemon for extra taste. Take the other half of the lemon that is left and cut it into thin slices. Keep the slices as thin as possible. Following that, place the lemon slices inside the cooking utensil along with the other ingredients.

Step 9 – Add three tablespoons of honey

Your solution now has the bitter taste of ginger and the tangy taste of citrus from the lemon. What it is missing is much needed sweetness. To add sweetness to the solution, you need to add three tablespoons of honey to it. Honey carries natural sweetness and comes with no harmful side effects, making it a fantastic natural ingredient.

Step 10 – Stir to Dissolve the Honey

Stir the entire solution to make sure that the honey dissolves completely. The water will have cooled down by now and making the honey dissolve will be harder. Therefore, you need to stir thoroughly to dissolve the honey.

Once you have completed these steps, your ginger root tea is ready for serving.

How Long to Boil Ginger Root

Since you don’t actively boil the ginger root in this case, you simply need to boil the water beforehand. Once you have put the ginger inside the water, leave it for thirty minutes. Therefore, the boiling time is essentially thirty minutes.

This recipe confusingly switches between Ginger and Garlic at times which is highly confusing!

50 grams per litre makes for very strong ginger tea bordering on unpleasant for me, I use considerably less ginger.
