Begin by washing your potatoes to remove any unpleasant dirt or bacteria.
After your potatoes are clean, you will begin to peel the potatoes to remove the outer layer.
Once the potatoes have been peeled, cut them into smaller pieces. Each potato should make four or five pieces. 1 kilogram of potatoes is an excellent place to start for your dish, but you can easily add as many potatoes as you like to make more or less.
Add the cut and cleaned potatoes to a pot.
After the potatoes are all inside of the pot, it is time to cover them with water. You want the potatoes to be completely covered with a layer of water over the top. The amount of water needed may vary depending on the size of your pot.
Add salt to the mashed potatoes. For 1 kilogram of mashed potatoes, ½ of a tablespoon is generally a good amount. However, you can add more to the mixture depending on how salty you want your potatoes to be. Some people enjoy a little extra.
Lightly stir the salt into the water. You do not need to stir the entire pot of potatoes. Simply swish the water around to spread the salt out.
Cover the pot with a sealed top to quickly boil your potatoes by locking in the heat.
Add the pot to the burner and turn the heat to high.
As the water begins to heat up, a foam may build on top of the water. You can easily use a spoon to scoop this off to make for a cleaner boiling process.
Once the potatoes come to a full boil, boil them for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. The amount may vary depending on your stove and the amount of potatoes.
After the time has passed, you can check on the status of the potatoes by poking a few of them with a knife. When the potatoes are fully cooked, the knife will easily sink into the potatoes. If you meet any resistance, simply cover the pot once again and allow the potatoes to continue to boil. You can check them every few minutes until they are the right texture.
When the potatoes have reached the right texture, use a strainer to drain the excess water in the pot.
Now that the water has been removed, you will begin the mashing process.
When the potatoes are mostly mashed, add room temperature butter to the potatoes. You can start with half a stick or add more as needed for taste.
Continue to mash the mashed potatoes so that the butter gets mixed into them until the mashed potatoes are a smooth and creamy texture.
Now that the mashed potatoes are smooth, add a single raw egg to the potatoes.
Mix the egg into the potatoes by continuing to mash them.
After the egg has been fully mixed in, add boiling milk to the mashed potatoes, then proceed to fluff the mashed potatoes by mixing the milk in with a mixer for a total of five minutes.
Once your mashed potatoes have reached the desired creamy texture, serve them on a plate as a standalone treat or with additional food for a more complete meal.
