How to Boil Pearl Barley (Step-by-Step Instructions)

To boil pearl barley, you need to follow a specific set of steps and use your ingredients according to the recipe. The process you need to follow for boiling pearl barley goes like this:

Step 1: Add 1.5 Liters of Water to a Container

The amount of water being used for this specific recipe is 1.5 liters. Make sure to use a utensil that’s wide and large enough to have lots of space left once you’re done adding the water.

Step 3: Take 500 grams of Pearl Barley

500 grams of pearl barley is the required amount in this recipe. To use more barley, you will need to adjust the other ingredients appropriately. Sift the barley to remove any and all unwanted objects and use clean pearl barley.

Step 4: Add Water and Rinse

Add the pearl barley to a bowl and add the water to it. Rinse the mixture with your hands until you see the water getting clear. The rinsing involves just dunking the barley in the water until you can see the water losing transparency.

Step 5: Place the Barley in the Boiled Water and Boil It

Add the rinsed barley to the water you boiled earlier and stir the mixture to make sure that the barley spread out evenly. Once you’re done, boil the mixture for 5-7 minutes. Anything longer than this could cause the pearl barley to become damaged.

Step 6: Sieve Out the Pearl Barley

Once boiled, sieve out the pearl barley and let them cool.

Step 7: Take One Liter of Water

In a separate utensil, take one liter of water. This amount is once again specific to the rest of this recipe and the number of ingredients that have been used.

Step 8: Add a Tablespoon of Salt

Salt is a great addition for taste to any food item. However, in this case, it also works to help with the boiling. Salt raises the boiling point of water and allows the mixture to boil more thoroughly once it is put on the stove.

Step 9: Add Two Tablespoons of Sunflower Oil

Since in the next stage the pearl barley must be cooked, you need to have some oil for the cooking. Sunflower oil is a great thing to use for cooking since it’s natural and is low on fats and cholesterol. Using it for the pearl barley is recommended.

Step 11: Add the Pearl Barley to the Boiled Water

Take the utensil off the stove once it has boiled and add it to the water. Be sure to spread it around like before.
