How to Boil Corn (Step-by-Step Instruction)

Boiling corn is a simple procedure that involves a small number of ingredients while still guaranteeing taste and an enhanced flavor. It is a simple recipe that requires you to follow a step by step procedure to get the best results. So, here’s what you must do to boil the corn perfectly.

Step 1: Take 10 Pieces of Corn and Clean Them Thoroughly

Your corn must be clean. Make sure there is no dirt on it before you boil it. Impurities are going to negatively influence the boiling and the taste is bound to be lost. So, clean the corn thoroughly using a tablecloth and remove any of corn silk that might be clinging to it.

Step 2: Remove the Leaves and Cut Off the Stalk

This step involves preparing the corn for boiling. You can do that by removing the parts you do not require. So, it means that you should the leaves and the stalk. As both parts are not edible, with the stalk being mostly made of cellulose which humans cannot digest. However, do not get rid of the leaves, because they are useful for the cooking stage later on.

Step 3: Place the Leaves at the Bottom of the Pan

The first step you must take is to place the leaves at the bottom of your utensil. As the leaves are going to protect the corn from coming into contact with the utensil and burn. Moreover, they also insulate the corn, which allows them to boil evenly.

Step 4: Add the Corn and Bring 1.5 liters of Water to Boil

Carefully place the corn on top of the leaves and stack them together. Afterward, bring 1.5 liters of water to a boil.

Step 5: Add the Water to the Corn

Now, you simply pour the water into the utensil and close the lid. Please note, that this amount of water is appropriate for this quantity of corn. So, you will need to change the amount of water you use depending on the number of pieces of corn you want to boil.

Step 6: Let the Corn Cook for 20-30 Minutes

Simply let the water do its work and cook the corn, leaving it for 20-30 minutes. Just allow the corn to simmer inside the water and keep the lid on top of the utensil.

Step 7: Test Whether the Corn Is Cooked with a Knife

Next, you need to put a knife into the corn to check whether or not it has cooked completely. If the knife goes inside the cob easily, then you will know that your corn is almost ready.

Step 8: Give it a Final Cook

If you feel the knife going in easily, you just must give it five more minutes of cooking to properly prepare it. This is the final cooking stage.

Step 9: Sprinkle on Some Salt According to Your Flavor Needs

Simple boiled corn has some sweet taste, but it does not possess any natural seasoning whatsoever. So, if you want to add some more flavor, simply sprinkle on salt. Add as much as you prefer.

Step 10: Add Butter to the Corn

Simply coat a brush in butter and rub it onto the corn. Butter’s a great ingredient to use for taste. Once you have coated the corn with butter, it is ready to be served.

How Long is Needed to Boil Corn?

There is no step where the corn is put on the heat and left to boil. Instead, you need to boil the water separately and then add it onto the corn. The boiled water will cook the corn for you and there is no need to add in extra heat. Here are the cooking stages with their durations:

If you want to know how to boil corn, you will need corn, water, salt, and butter as your ingredients. Clean the corn and separate it from the stalk and leaves. Add the boiled water to the corn and let it cook inside it for around half an hour. Check readiness with a knife, sprinkle on some salt and rub some butter on the corn, and serve.
